Benedicte de Nonneville
ABOUT
Born in France, I have made my home in London.
My practice spans painting, language and installations. My work unfolds like a palimpsest, where traces of painting, installations and poetry overlap and resurface.
Central themes in my work include identity, mind maps, language and performativity.

It is a practice of composing and opposing, textures meeting reflections, the meditative gesture of ink drawn by nib, the raw intensity and controlled force of calligraphy.
I am drawn to physicality and spatiality, to shifting shadows, breathing movements, to rhythm.
Influenced by Cy Twombly and Gestural Abstraction, I’ve embraced liberated mark-making as a way to access emotion. Feminist thinkers like Laura Mulvey provided the critical lens to articulate them.
